   I found this product on Amazon for several dollars cheaper than other places and since I did not really know if it worked, I did not want to spend a great deal of money on it. My son went into the back yard, scooped up some black dirt in a jar and filled it with water. He sucked the nasty water through the straw and then spit it into a clear glass and the water was crystal clear! He said the water tasted really good too. I plan to buy several more- an amazing product. This company also sends a straw to an area in Kenya when you purchase one, so it is nice the company does this for those in need in other countries with unsafe water.

They work great, but it can occasionally be a challenge when the water you need is sitting down in a little crack that's too small for the filter to fit. Otherwise, perfect for pulling water from the environment.

   However, I did want to try it out at home and bought another. This is an important tool for camping, hiking, or anything you do that you could find yourself out of water. It's very easy to use and easy to pull water through it. Initially, you will need a little extra sucking power to get the water water flowing - just a little more than sucking on a regular straw. You then blow the water out and you can store it for the next time you need it.

   Bought a LifeStraw about a year ago and brought it, still wrapped, on dozens of hikes and excursions without ever needing to use it. Was starting to feel like an unnecessary purchase ... until it was absolutely necessary! Hiking the rim-to-rim Grand Canyon trails in 100-degree heat I was left with very limited supply of water with several miles of climbing to go before a clean water stop. When a creek appeared, I whipped out the lifestraw and drank to my throat's content. This was flowing water and while not brown, it was clearly not potable. Drinking from the LifeStraw was pleasant (aside from needing to get down on all fours to reach the water level) and tasted as good (if not better) than the clean water at the rest stations.

   I went camping last weekend here in Arizona. If you know much about our water streams, they are quite dirty, especially where I camp. I won’t even eat the fish from these rivers (not all AS rivers, just the one I was next to). I realized that I have had these life straws for YEARS and never used them. So, against my better judgement, I decided to test one out for funsies. The water was brown and nearly stagnant. I used as directed and I have to say, the water was pretty good. Still seemed to have some dirt taste to it but that may have just been from the dirt already in my mouth (it was dusty and windy that day). Otherwise, it was refreshing and I didn’t get sick so it did it’s job!!

   As soon as this came in the mail, I went over to the dirtiest mud hole I could find down some back roads gravel road. I opened the package while looking over at the muddy hole of bacterial infections waiting to happen. After I opened the lifestraw, I took it out and knealed down so my thirst would subside. I lean in to get a taste of the freshest water I could have ever tasted. Well not exactly the freshest, but cleanest.
