The point extends out just enough making it easy to drill most of the way through the wood on one side then line up the point with the hole made by the tip and drill in from the other side to make a perfectly clean hole on both sides. There is no wobble of the drill as it spins in the chuck of my drill press. I can't say that for all my bits. For a woodworker such as myself who is very concerned about the quality his work, this is a good choice even if they are a bit pricey.
