   This product saved my knives. And my fingers. And my diet. And my time. The nearest knife sharpening outlet to my home is open only until 3 pm. Tough to get your knives sharpened when you're a working person, which means my knives were getting ever-duller and my fingers ever more endangered. When it got to the point that my chef's knife was skittering off the skin of an apple, I knew I could mess around no longer. But to drop them off at the knife shop meant possibly living without them for a week or more - an eternity for a dieting home cook. Thanks to some quick research and an Amazon Prime subscription, I had this whiz-bang little device in my hands within 2 days. And within 5 or 6 repetitions of the documented sharpening process, I had a chef's knife that was back in the cutting business. That's how dull it was - it needed extra attention. I would say I probably spent 10 - 15 minutes getting it usable again. The best part is - it will never take that long again. Now that I have this nifty little gizmo in my kitchen, my knives can be exactly as sharp as I want them to be. All for the cost of a single trip to the professional sharpening outlet.

   I sat down and did 7 knives and it brought them back from almost useless to fairly sharp. I did hand hone them a little after this unit did the bulk of the work. The bottom line is I'm happy with my purchase. One word of caution. If you sharpen a bunch of knives all at once like I did the unit will get hot. Just keep an eye on it and let it cool off if it does. I fairly sure I was pushing it past it's intended duty cycle.

   I was a little skeptical that I would be getting a descent knife sharpener for under $25 dollars but after sharpening 5 kitchen knives and a meat cleaver I have to say that I am really impressed. This sharpener put a really nice edge on my knives and it took only a few seconds to sharpen each knife. Now I can get rid of my sharpening stone and save lots of time and potential injury of sharpening with the stone. In the instructions it says that the sharpener will slow down or stop if too much presser is applied to the blade while sharpening. This is intended to be a safety feature and does not mean that the sharpener is defective. i had it slow down on me a couple of times but after I practiced my technique I didn't have any more issues. In the instructions it warns to be careful that you don't cut the power cord while sharpening the knife and I concur. The power cord is just in front of the #2 set of sharpening stones and I can see that it would be easy to draw the edge of the knife over the power cord. I think that it is a design flaw that would be easy for the manufacturer to correct by moving the power cord to the side of the sharpener. I would definitely not recommend that you let children use this sharpener. Other than that I do not have any issues with this sharpener and would recommend it.

   I was a little nervous judging by the cost vs. reputable brand's version, but after reading reviews I decided to give it a shot. Worse case, my knives would be a bit sharper and I would buy another, a risk worth $25. I had been researching diamond stones, but I didn't have anyone familiar and there were too many variables that I wasn't certain of. So, I decided to purchase this and was very pleased.

   I am AMAZED!!!!!!! There were a few mixed reviews and so I was a bit skeptical about ordering this knife sharpener; nothing to worry about. It is the best sharpener I have ever used, and having been cooking for over 60 years I have a whole drawer full of sharpeners, including my grandmother's sharpener from 1922. I have every type, including the one recommended by America's Test Kitchen. This is far and away the best. Be certain to read all the directions because there are some helpful tips there. I never had the problem mentioned in some reviews here of the wheel stopping when too much pressure is applied, because I never applied anything but the lightest pressure. Mainly just to guide the knife and hold it securely into the slots. It also said not to use your finger to test the sharpness of the blade (who knew that would be a bad idea?). Yes, I have to admit I really wanted to swipe that presumably sharp knife against my finger, but I resisted and used food instead (clever, right?). And, I'm so glad I did, because it's razor sharp! It does make noise, as reported in other reviews, but metal grinding against grinding wheels has a way of

   I was going to just buy a new 7" Henckels Santoku knife because I had used mine and sharpened it with cheap gadgets for years and it had finally given out on me. It couldn't slice through a tomato no matter what I did. For some reason I decided to look for an electric sharpener instead and came across this one and read the reviews and was convinced to at least try it and I'm glad I did.

   If you know what a diamond stone is, or what japanese water stones are, or you know the difference in bevel angle between a western knife and japanese knife then THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. This doesn't get your knife so sharp you'll be able to shave with it and it's a little aggressive in removing steel... BUT it's perfect for me. I have a decent mid level knife set from Chicago Cutlery and a few low end Henckel knives. I can take this sharpener out and do my whole knife block including 4 steak knives, a Chef's knife, paring knife, 2 boning knives and a carving knife in 5 minutes with very little skill required. When I'm done all of the knives are plenty sharp for my needs. I can cut transparent pieces of red bell peppers (skin side up), the knives slide right through meat and I can slice through soft bread without squishing it at all because they're sharp. I sharpen my knives about once every couple months and at that rate I'll probably wear through the metal in 30 years. This is not for your heirloom knives, your custom commissioned knives but if you need sharp knives and don't know anything about sharpening knives this is for you. After using the knives at my house my in-laws and parents were so impressed I got them this for xmas since they kept bringing their knives to my house asking me to sharpen them.

   Price is great and works as expected. I wish I could sharpen my scissors and other items as well but it isn't made for that. Easy to use. It does throw out some minimal dust after 10 knives or so. Tray has to be unscrewed from the bottom for emptying. Suction cups keep it in place well. Noise level mentioned in other reviews is not an issue for me. Happy with purchase.
