   I don't know why people are saying that the tripod on this telescope is horrible, everything about the telescope including the tripod is awesome. I was told that the tripod would not stand that high and I would need a table, that is not true at all. The tripod is very stable. The only thing that I do not like is that when you try to move the telescope it feels like it will break from the top of the tripod. The telescope is very cool and I love it.

   I purchased this for a Christmas gift along with two books on astronomy for two grandsons aged nine and eleven who are interested in science and astronomy and had outgrown a toy telescope. They love it; it is well made and they are delighted with what they can discover with it. The ability to put it into a case to take with them on camp-outs and to friends' houses is a plus. They were excited opening it at Christmas and continue to enjoy using it. I really like making science and learning fun for them and a less expensive model of this was on their wish list for Christmas. Good value for the money.

   More a spotter scope than an astronomy scope but it is good for portability and entry level. The max mag out of the box is too low for planetary observation but deep sky objects are fine and the lunar surface. The tripod is segmented so you can easily use on a tabletop or extend to stand on the ground. Alt-azimuth is rudimentary but a little smoother than other scopes in this price range. Comes with a backpack which makes this an excellent portability solution.
