   Initially, I was disappointed in the product when i aimed the laser at the wall and the digital reader produced metric units. I was devastated. During that brief moment of despair, i actually felt embarrassed and was prepared to learn the metric system. Weird but true. Also, as a bonus feature, the label warns that the laser produces radiation and can be harmful in the wrong hands. I think the product is underpriced.

   very happy with the purchase. the tape stays out by default and you push down the button to retract - much better than the usual lock switch that when released causes the tape to retract uncontrollably into the housing. laser is very convenient for long distances, precision to 1/16" over 40 meters. the laser readings can show metric or imperial including 109" or 12'1" (just read the instructions for how to toggle).I wish the housing was built with the back wall and base completely square rather than with ergonomic curves. The back of the base has a 1/2" of flat area that then turns up for fingers placement (see photos), and the back wall of the housing is flat for about 2". The bottom line is it can be hard to aim the laser parallel to a surface if you're not butted up to solid surfaces because the housing can roll a bit on the back corner axis. But overall not too big of an issue.

   I bought this laser/tape measure for measuring the distance for stud walls that I am building to divide up a room. I was, at first skeptical and would do a double measurement (laser and tape) and I have found that it is very accurate for this kind of work. I put the laser on inches as opposed to feet. I don't know if I would use it for cabinet construction where you need to be 1/64 but for wall and working with vertical measuring it is surprisingly very accurate. I also have a laser for vertical plumb. I do that first and make a dot on the opposing end and then do my measurement so the laser is on or very very near the dot. That works best for accuracy.

   I am doing a lot of remodeling in my house and was frustrated by how poorly my tape measures worked (even a new Stanley one) - My wife got me this for christmas and the mechanical part of the tape measure is very well designed - the lock is very well designed - easy to lock and unlock and it holds well. The laser so far is as accurate as my manual measurements. A couple of things are difficult - converting decimal to sub inch fractions requires some calculations, and it is also difficult to hold the tape measure still while clicking the lasar on/off and read button.
