There is no sound audible to the human ear and my dog and cat don't seem to notice either. I also like that you are not killing/hurting them with this method you are just repelling them. The pack of four allows for siting one in the loft, one in the house itself, one in an outbuilding and one in the garage. For the price, receiving 4 in the pack seemed a bargain compared to some other similar products. Some more time will tell if they are truly effective but for now I'm happy with the continuing peace and quiet.
