it easiest to use the light pad on my lap, and it's perfect for this. I can sit with my legs up on a stool and be perfectly comfortable while using the light pad, since it weighs so little. The pad's been used for tracing on to both A4 and A3 300gsm watercolour paper, with great visibility even at settings lower than the highest. At the highest setting, I'd guess that 450gsm paper would also be manageable although I'm not too sure about 600gsm.

I like that it has the dimmable feature, which provides 4 levels of brightness, as well as that it has a short USB power cord hard-wired in that can be extended using the supplied extension cord. The lighting definitely is brighter and consistently even across its surface than what our old fluorescent light box from a few decades ago provides. Plus the fact that its thin and light is great for traveling, and that it has a serviceable protective pouch. The price is very inviting, and does make me consider getting a 2nd one for our studio.

I keep mine plugged into a multiple plug strip that has a heavy duty cord and don’t unplug the light pad, I just shut off the strip when not in use. This way it doesn’t get worn out like it would if I unplugged the light pad all the time.
