As others have noted, i let my hair air dry a little prior to using and I do use a blowout serum. I have semi thick hair and past my shoulders a bit. I'm probably a 3C for hair type. I was surprised at how lightweight this dryer is. You will want to have your hair about 80% dry before using this dryer to avoid hair damage. It gets very hot. I am only able to use the low heat setting for my shoulder length fine highlighted hair. The high is extremely hot and not needed. It really doesn't give much more wave than a slight bend to my hair. There are definitely no curls after using it. It just gives you a fuller blown out look but if you want curls you will need to add a curling iron. I really o in s it though. It's very smoothing yo the hair I don't think this would work well on shorter hair. The barrel is large.
