Just plug it up and be certain to turn off any other lights near the zapper to keep flying insects attracted to the unit. When a flying insect gets zapped, it is audible, this is how I know it is working. Clean up is simple too. Just sweep when needed with the small brush provided. Since there is no on/off switch on the unit, I'd recommend connecting it to a switched outlet.
