    Just got this item yesterday. I normally sharpen my own knives on a wet stone, which I can get the knives pretty sharp and it can pass the paper test (where you cut a piece of paper with the knife). I took one of our old dull knife and sharpened it with presto electric knife sharpener and it took me less than 30 seconds to do so. It ended up to be just as sharp as if I had sharpened the knife with my wet stone (doing this method usually takes much longer, and you may run the risk of cutting yourself). However, with this sharpener, getting the knives to be super sharp was quick, easy and effortless.

    I really agonized over this purchase since there are so many choices in so many price offerings. For whatever reasons I was never able to master the art of sharpening with the traditional steel...perhaps it's because I am left handed or some strange reason BUT...the reason I selected this one is because of the two step process it employs. The first to begin to get your knife back into the correct shape and somewhat sharpened and the second to finish off the process and finely sharpen the blade to perfection. ALL sharpeners take metal off the blade but you certainly do not want one that is going to chew your knife up and take off too much of the steel! This, then, is the solution. At first blush...It works perfectly if YOU follow the instructions and hold the blade of your knives at the proper angle, as suggested and pictured...which is very easy to do. The outcome is a very sharp blade and one that slices anything with ease. My test for adequate sharpness is never hair or paper slice...it is the tomato! The toughest of all to slice cleanly and not crush to bits under a dull blade. This sharpener is a gem and works on the smallest to the longest and largest knife! It also sharpens serrated blades wonderfully! Will it continue to hone effortlessly over time? The issue of longevity of the sharpener is yet to be established. I will amend & add to this review when I have that answer!!!
