As a high school and college Spanish student, I enjoyed the decorating of sugar skull cupcakes as part of the Dia de los Muertos celebration, and wanted to share the tradition with my family. We tested these pans out (several months early) yesterday and they were even better than the ones I'd used in school. The pan has a nonstick coating, but I used cooking spray just to be safe after my high school cakes got stuck to the pans I used back then - but now I think it may not have even been necessary. The cakes popped right out when I flipped the pan over!

Baked many small cakes and the "turnaround time" is very quick because the cakes easily release right out of the oven. Wipe with a towel (if even needed) add batter for the next batch, and bake more! The manufacturer also makes a large skull cake pan for a complete skull. I'm buying that one next!

I used these to make Halloween pizza skulls. I coated the cavity with a little olive oil, and lined them with pizza dough, leaving extra dough hanging over the sides. Then I filled them with sauce, cheese, chopped up pepperoni and mushrooms and folded the excess dough over the filling, pinching to seal. . You, of course, could use your own favorite pizza toppings. Then I baked them for about 20 minutes. They came out great and popped right out of the pan. I served them with extra marinara sauce for dipping and they were a big hit.
