The laser comes with a diffuser install and needs to be unscrewed before using as a pointer. I can see it could be frustrating for some folks to figure this out. To remove, push down on the diffuser when unscrewing so you can use it as a pointer. Also, you can unscrew the inner lens to widen the beam.
