I needed a smaller router for light duty work. My larger router is under a router table and I find it bulky for some of the basic work I do like flush trim, round overs, etc. First impression is the Colt is quiet compared to my Yellow monster. I still wear hearing protection, but it's almost unnecessary unless you use it all day. I like the collet lock and yes the router came with the wrenches. Changing depth is very easy and the depth measurements are etched clearly on the router body. All in all, this was a very worthwhile purchase. I will eventually buy the edge guide, but for now I don't need it. I do recommend buying the centering cone. My router base did need some minor adjustments, but nothing serious. You'll be happy if you buy this. If you are shopping for your first router, this is a good starting point. You will eventually upgrade, but you won't get rid of this one. Five stars! Two thumbs up!

This router was amazingly comfortable to work with. It's light, just heavy enough to provide a good amount of weight to be able to stay close to the project. The grip is very ergonomic! This really fits in as being a router but so much more. It really a universal woodworking and metal milling tool. Add the plunger base and you have a full-size router. remove it and you have the ultimate finish tool. Cutting holes, finishing edges, cutting notches and grooves, milling edges of soft metals and rounding over wood boards and trim pieces. It really has all the power that I need. Just read the many reviews and notice what the professional say about it.

As long as this fits your purposes, you'll be happy. Particularly if you don't have strong hands (or strong anything) like me, this is a great choice. But for me, personally, I purchased this, then realized from the DIY instructional woodwork videos I was watching, that I need a plunge router (to use a bottom-cleaning bit for a lazy Susan). Just keep that in mind, depending on what you need a router for. I'm not docking a star because the router works great, which I know because I've bought and used the same brand's set with the plunger piece.

I am a newcomer to the world of routing so have done a fair bit of research before taking the plunge and spending money on something of which I knew little. Many reviews headed toward the 1617 but I felt that it was just too big and serious for me. After all, what was I going to use this for? Small projects, some edging, maybe some toys for the kids, helpful workshop additions for me and, at a stretch, progress onto some furniture. Well, for all of these, the Colt is excellent and I am glad that I did not go for the bigger, bulk and seriousness of the 1617. Don't get me wrong, I love gadgets and the thought of owning a bigger gadget is always appealing but it just seemed overkill. The Colt is very well balanced, sturdy and solid in the palm of your hand. The other hand is equally placed, with finger and thumb guiding it. Strong, powerful motor, on a recent job cutting oak, performed very well. Packs well in its case, with room to spare for smaller tool s or cutting bits. I did intend to get this one and see if I needed to upgrade but I think not. Overall, an excellent choice and highly recommended. Now I just need to find another routing job to enjoy...

I purchased this router to round off dimensional lumber for a chair-making project. Once I got the hang of adjusting the bit depth, this tool has performed flawlessly, making very quick work of taking the rough edges off the lumber, and really improving the "look" of the finished product...vs. sanding off the edges, which is what I had done previously. I'm going to find lots of other projects to use this on in the future, I'm sure. Good instructions, easy controls, adjustable in several ways. Great buy!

I bought this unit as a replacement for my Porter Cable trim router, as it has the larger 5.2amp motor and variable speed control that the current version of the PC doesn't have. Since it's a trim router, I'm not certain when I would ever slow the speed down (typically with larger bits), but it's an option. At first the quick depth adjustment with added fine-tune knob seemed like a gimmick, but it does make the adjustment pretty easy and fast. Plus, when it's locked it holds the depth very solid without any wiggle or movement.

Bosch is best when it comes to tools like this. Great feel, great design, comfortable, powerful, accurate, just great. I love the two stage locking mechanism that allows you to microadjust. A hint: Get the package with the plunge base. You won't be sorry and the price is a bit better. Excellent speed control and soft start. If there is a little criticism, it would be in the micro-adjust thumbscrew which is a pain in the neck and the thumb. It isn't easy to access. If you want better depth control, I suggest using a plunge base rather than the fixed. That said, it does the job extremely well. It has become my go to router for most edge work, especially laminate trimming, roundovers, and chamfers. It also excels in shallow mortice work. For the bigger cuts, a larger router is recommended.

I received my Colt about 2 hours ago and because I am building a door that needed the styles rounded over, I used my new Colt. I read the directions, however, if you are like me, you have to use it before everything fits into place. It fits nicely into your palm, not much vibration, plenty of power, and after a few minutes of making routing mistakes, I got the hang and feel right and finished with a nice round over. It comes with 2 wrenchs, although, the spindle lock made the second wrench unnecessary. The quick clamp lever did not feel right, a little loose, I thought, so I used an 8mm wrench and tightened the quick clamp nut about two turns and the clamp felt a lot better to me. The colt is suprisingly light weight and you have to pay attention to the directions for locking and unlocking it because I, somehow, did not lock the tool after I had adjusted for the height of the cutter. I found when I started to route that the base collapsed back up supprising the hell out of me. I thought I had received a faulty router. After a second look, I realized, somehow, the router had not been locked. All in all, like any new tool, you have to get use to it, get to know its eccentricities, but all in all this is a tool with a different feel and one which will probably make your routing not only more fun but also make you a better router.
