This is a great magnet for beginners to magnet fishing. A good value! I've gotten this thing stuck twice on a bridge support, but was able to pull it off from a good angle. Anything more powerful and I may have lost my magnet. The heaviest haul so far is a good sized hammer. Not sure of the weight, but still a good hefty haul. The hammer pic shows the magnet after about two dozen "fishing" trips (and about a hundred throws). It's a little scratched up, but not corroded. This magnet is best for "bobbing" and not so much for dragging. I do double check that the eye ring is tight, and the carabiner is tight every dozen throws or so. They can and have loosened a bit after multiple uses.

I live in a high rise apartment building and have to climb up on the rail to reach the upper balcony to put them on. I put one of these on just to test it, now I can't get it off! I am a very hefty guy and was practically hanging from the magnet until I started feeling like if I pulled any harder I was going to fall to my death if it suddenly released. Nothing I could do but leave it and use it where it was. These magnets are now a permanent part of this building.

First of all, I don't expect the magnet to lift 440 pounds. I wanted it to lift 10, 20, 30, or so pounds which it will do. I'd be lucky to lift anything over 60 pounds in the water anyway. That be said, the N52 magnet looks very good for the price. It includes a 30+ feet of strong rope, a good locking carabiner, and the magnet itself is well made. I like the fact that the magnet screws into the eyebolt. I also bought some spray rubber to protect the outer casing. I contacted the supplier to ask them if I could spray the bottom of the magnet and they responded quickly that they don't recommend it, but I may give it a light coating anyway. Also bought some Loctite to help secure the eyebolt.
